Abstract:This document shows the results of an experimental work in which the main geometric factors defining lap splices were studied. The diameter of the reinforcement bar, the concrete cover, the gap between the two overlapped bars and the distance between families of overlapped bars were taken into account. The multiple pull-out test, recently developed at the University of A Coruna, was used to perform the experimental work, in combination with a statistic methodology based on the design of experiments techniques. In these conditions, the concrete cover and the distance between families of overlapped reinforcement bars resulted to be the most important factors.
