Abstract:
Experimental and analytical work was conducted to investigate the Iosipescu test as a means of measuring tensile capacity of various concrete mixtures. The study compared results from flexural and splitting tensile strength tests against data obtained using the Iosipescu beam test. Based on the research, it was determined that failure paths observed for the split cylinder and Iosipescu tests agree with results of finite element analyses, which showed that the failure surfaces are perpendicular to the principal tensile stresses in the beams.
