Abstract:
This article discusses whether high volumes of fiber reinforcement can eventually be used in place of standard reinforcement in concrete. Currently, the construction of structural fiber-reinforced concrete has been limited to industrial slabs-on-ground. The author proposes test construction of different types of slabs using only structural fibers as reinforcement to verify that the slabs won’t fail. The author also proposes using the finite element method (FEM) to better allocate the fiber reinforcement to parts of the slab that require more tensile strength.
