An inadequate wastewater management system in the coastal city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has resulted in a rise in the water table and contamination of the groundwater by sewage and seawater. The rising level of polluted groundwater has seriously impaired the strength and serviceability of concrete and masonry.
