Abstract:
The principal considerations in the evaluation, design, and construction that led to the successful rehabilitation of the multilevel Pier 39 concrete frame parking garage in San Francisco are described. Gradual deterioration of insufficiently protected heat-seal wrapped post-tensioning had rendered the garage unfunctional and necessitated extensive shoring. Rehabilitation options, economic evaluations, structural computations, post-tensioning hardware, and construction highlights are discussed.
