Abstract:
Twenty-nine tests of one-way spanning slabs subjected to concentrated loads and failing in shear are reported. It is shown that analyses using current code provisions and making separate calculations of full-width one-way shear strengths and punching resistances are inappropriate. It is proposed that component shears due to symmetric load spreading and longitudinal spanning should be summed and equated to a limit value. This approach is shown to correlate well with the results of the reported tests and others in the literature.
