Abstract:
Refractory concrete, unlike Portland cement concrete, is not commonly used as a structural member, although in some applications it may contribute to overall structural integrity. More often refractory concretes are used to protect structural members (commonly steel) and are considered to be lining or barrier materials. The use of thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, strength, and reheat shrinkage data is discussed relative to their use in designing with refractory concrete.
