Abstract:A brief history of the evolution of structural lightweight concrete in building codes is presented. The special provisions for structural lightweight concrete contained in ACI 318-63 have been extended and modified in ACI 318-71. These changes, particularly with regard to quality control, deflection, flexural strength, diagonal tension, and development length are discussed.
