Title: Short Term Deformation of Reinforced Concrete Beams
Author(s): B. Johnston
Publication: Special Publication
Appears on pages(s): 225-248
Keywords: beams (supports); bending moments; computation; cracking (fracturing); deflection; deformation; flexural strength; moment-curvature relationship; reinforced concrete; stiffness; tensile strength
Abstract:A simplified method of computing the moment-curvature relationships for beams subject to flexure is presented which enables the non-linear behaviour of concrete in compression and the stiffening effect of the tensile zone between cracks to be taken into account. A means of calculating deflections and rotations from the computed moment curvature is shown to be straightfoward in application and of acceptable accuracy.
