Abstract:
Tests have shown that shear capacity of a beam decreases as the absolute depth or the b/bw ration increases. Because almost all available shear tests have been performed using small beams with low b/bw ratios, it is questionable whether their results can be applied to design large and thin box girders which are becoming popular in long span prestressed concrete bridges.
