Title: Shear Design of Large Concrete Box Girders
Author(s): Man-Chung Tang
Publication: Special Publication
Appears on pages(s): 305-320
Keywords: beams (supports); box beams; bridges (structures); cracking (fracturing); girder bridges; long span; prestressed concrete; reinforcing steels; shear properties; shear tests; standards; structural design; web reinforcement
Abstract:Tests have shown that shear capacity of a beam decreases as the absolute depth or the b/bw ration increases. Because almost all available shear tests have been performed using small beams with low b/bw ratios, it is questionable whether their results can be applied to design large and thin box girders which are becoming popular in long span prestressed concrete bridges.
