Abstract:
This article describes a theoretical investigation of the contribution of bent-up bars to the shear strength of reinforced concrete beams, which shows that the contribution is independent of the inclination of the bent-up bars and the angle of the diagonal crack. This is at variance with the traditional Truss Analogy and means that the contribution calculated according to this theory is overestimated by about 41%. The present theory has been compared with tests and is in exact agreement with these.
