Abstract:
Pure torsion tests are reported on eight L-beams having a longitudinal reinforcement volume greatly in excess of the stirrup volume. Strengths are compared with predictions from three available methods. Data of 21 rectangular and L-shaped beams from other investigators are likewise analyzed. Since present methods of prediction do not provide reasonable estimates of the strenghts of these beams, an empirical method is outlined.
