Title: Partially Over-Reinforced Concrete Beams Under Pure Torsion
Author(s): K. S. Rajagopalan, Umakanta Behera, and Phil M. Ferguson
Publication: Journal Proceedings
Appears on pages(s): 740-747
Keywords: beam (supports); L-beams; rectangular beams; reinforced concrete; research; stiffness; strength; torsion
Abstract:Pure torsion tests are reported on eight L-beams having a longitudinal reinforcement volume greatly in excess of the stirrup volume. Strengths are compared with predictions from three available methods. Data of 21 rectangular and L-shaped beams from other investigators are likewise analyzed. Since present methods of prediction do not provide reasonable estimates of the strenghts of these beams, an empirical method is outlined.
