Abstract:
The 2002 edition of ACI 318,1 “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete and Commentary,” adopted the Unified Design Method, which may be used to analyze both reinforced and prestressed concrete members. This article focuses on the strain-based approach to column design as presented in ACI 318, Section 9.3.2.2. Here, design graphs for analyzing and designing columns whose net tensile strain is in the transitional zone are proposed.
