Abstract:
Shrinkage in concrete can be attributed to loss of moisture, chemical reactions of the cement with water, variations in temperature, and chemical reactions of the cement with atmospheric carbon dioxide. Engineers need an accurate estimation of concrete shrinkage so they may safely design and minimize cracking, which can help extend the structure’s service life and durability. A precise estimation also reduces costs by preventing over-design of concrete members. This article proposes a more accurate method to predict the drying shrinkage of concrete containing SRA.
