Abstract:
The basic fundamental conditions involved in the design and construction of joints are discussed. Various types of joints and load transfer devices are described, as well as various forms of structural failure of joints. Reccomendations are given for the design, fabrication and installation of load-transfer devices, the construction and finishing of the concrete surrounding the joint assembly and the sealing of joints. A supplement disusses joints for heavy duty airport pavements.
