Abstract:
A wide variety of Austrailian aggregates and cements has been examined with a view estimating the possible incidence of expansive reaction in concrete made from these materials. Mortar bars were observed over periods up to two years and the results correlated with petrographic examination of the aggregates and chemical composition of the cements. This correlation has shown that in most cases the potential reactivity can be assesed by petrographic examination but that doubtful material requires supplementary mortar tests.
