Abstract:
The method outlined here was developed to simplify prestressing of concrete to make it generally adaptable to American ways of construction. It eliminates costly anchorages; uses larger diameter wires (3/8-in. diameter now available on the market), instead of the customary 3/16-in. diamter wire, thus greatly reducing the number of wires required; prestresses all the wires in the building element simultaneously and simplifies forming. A simplified method of design calculations for prestressed concrete and the reslut of tests of a beam so designed are included.
