Abstract:Four charts are presented for checking the stresses in a rectangular reinforced concrete section subjected to bending in two directions with or without normal compressive force. These charts can be used for sections with sym-metrical as well as nonsymmetrical steel arrangement. The only limitation of the use of these charts is the rectangularity of the section. The assumption that the slope of the neutral axis is the same as that for a homogeneous section is used in preparing the charts. The maximum error due to this assumption is shown to be on the safe side and of negligible magnitude even for the worst cases. Four numerical examples are given to illustrate the use of the charts.
