Abstract:
Presents recommcndntions and aids for the design of sections by the ultimate strength design method. For usual types of buildings the moments, shears, and thrusts determined by coefficants recommended in the ACI Building Code are utilized in the design formulas recommended by the committee. Similarly, indeterminate structures must first be analyzed by the theory of elastic displacements. Provisions are included for bending moments in compression members, shortening of arches, and deflections. A specific degree of control is recommended for concrete used in structures designed by this method.
