Title: Design of Concrete Overlays for Pavements*
Author(s): ACI Committee 325
Publication: Journal Proceedings
Appears on pages(s): 315-320
Keywords: no keywords
Abstract:Report traces the development of empirical formulae for structural capacity of two slabs, one superimposed on the other, and gives equations developed by Marcus and Palmer which permit determination of stresses in both the upper and lower slabs. Locating joints in the overlay above joints in the old slab is recommended. Design of reinforcement for the overlay is considered, as well as combining resurfacing with pavement widening. Also discussed are: relative merits of a separation course between old and new slab; bonded resur-facing; and effect of subgrade condition.
