Abstract:
Axially loaded tensile specimens, each a single deformed reinforcing bar encased concentrically in a long concrete prism, were loaded with axial tension applied through the exposed ends of the bar. By injections of ink into the tensioned specimens, the internal cracks were dyed. These cracks were then examined after the specimens were split longitudinally along the bar. Crack patterns are recorded in photographs which indicate the type of internal mechanism created where bond stresses are large.
