Abstract:
Tests are described which were carried out to establish an efficient experimental technique for evaluating critical lap length. The results indicate that it is possible to determine the critical lap length, which is just sufficient to develop yield stress in reinforcement, from a very few splice test results and a knowledge of the actual yield strength of the reinforcing steel. It was found that strain measurements were not essential since steel stress could be satisfactorily predicted using ultimate strength analysis.
