Abstract:
Tests of 7 simply supported and I7 two-span deep beams are reported. The behavior ranged from brittle for beams without vertical web reinforcement to ductile for beams with large amounts of vertical web reinforcement. Horizontal web reinforcement had no effect on the capacity. The ACI Building Code overestimated the strength of continuous deep beams and those having horizontal shear reinforcement.
