Abstract:
This experimental program was a study of the bonding behavior of small 1’4 in. (32 mm) diameter discrete, continuous steel rings randomly distributed in a concrete matrix and of the strength-increasing potential they offer as reinforcement. Advantages of ring shape versus straight fibers are discussed. Bending, compression, and splitting tension tests indicate the rings at the concentrations tested are superior to straight fiber reinforcement in some respects. Possible refinements of the ring reinforcement technique are discussed.
