Abstract:
Summarizes results of an experimental investigation of the mechanical properties of high-strength lightweight concrete subject to short-term loads. Concretes having compressive strengths to 8600 psi (59 MPa) and densities from 90 to 103 pcf (1440 to 1650 kg/m) were tested. Data were obtained pertaining to compressive strength, strength gain with age, specimen size effect, static modulus of elasticity, Poisson ratio, modulus of rupture, splitting cylinder strength, and drying effects. Deformation properties under load were studied to provide insight into the internal behavior and failure mechanism of lightweight concrete. Results of tests of lightweight concrete are compared with information obtained in earlier tests of normal weight concrete.
