Abstract:
Some features of the seismic provisions of the AC1 Building Code (ACI 318-83) are critically examined from New Zealand design and research perspectives. Apparent deficiencies in design philosophy and detailing, relevant to girders, columns, structural walls, and joints in frames are described. Suggestions for improvements that might be considered in future revisions of the code are offered.
