Abstract:
This study systematically investigates the properties of extruded cement-based short polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber reinforced plates with added metakaolin and silica fume. The enhancing effects of the two mineral admixtures on the mechanical properties of the plates are compared by the direct tensile test, freezing and thawing test, impact test, and rheology test. Particle size and surface area analyses were performed to study the possible mechanism of enhancement. XRD and SEM tests were carried out for further explanations at the microstructural level. The experimental results show that both metakaolin and silica fume can improve the tensile strength and impact resistance of the cement-based composite. For a fixed water cementitious materials ratio, the mix with silica fume added has a better resistance to freezing and thawing.
