Collaboration between the ACI Northern California & Western Nevada Chapter (NCAWNV Chapter) and ACI is paving the way for the Chapter’s first certification center. This initiative underscores a shared commitment to serving the Chapter’s more than 1500 clients annually. The official opening day of the Chapter Certification Center is January 2, 2026.

A new certification program co-sponsored by NEx: An ACI Center of Excellence for Nonmetallic Building Materials is now available through ACI Certification. The program, titled “GFRP Reinforcing Bar Inspector” is designed to qualify individuals responsible for inspecting the installation of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) reinforcing bars in concrete construction. This program reinforces NEx’s mission to advance the safe and effective use of nonmetallic materials.

Whether it is a local, state, national, or model building code, grassroots code advocacy is an essential part of the code development process. The work of ACI members is not complete when building code requirements are published or a certification program is launched, and local initiatives are needed for adoption and acceptance.

In keeping with ACI’s tagline “Always advancing,” the ACI Certification Department recently led a Pilot program with the Institute of Concrete Technology (ICT), an ACI International Partner, for the new EN-based Concrete Compressive Strength Testing Technician (CCSTT) certification program in Woking, England, UK.

ACI certification provides independent verification that a person possesses an appropriate level of competence to perform specific responsibilities. All too often though firms are sending employees, or individuals are registering themselves, with little to no experience or preparation, who expect to become certified simply by attending a session. That is not the case with ACI certifications.
