Abstract:
Contrary to views expressed in a recently published article, it has been shown that cold restraightening of reinforcing bar results in appreciable changes in steel properties in the region of restraightened bends. The tensile strength increases both due to strain hardening and strain aging. Brittle fractures have been shown more likely when either designed bends or field made bends are restraightened after strain aging.
