Abstract:
This article presents a procedure for updating en-vironmental knowledge and awareness for an appreciation of our surroundings. It discusses the new regulations of the National Environmental Policy Act. The design engineer or manager in charge of a major development should be aware of the project’s impact on the environment. The article discusses the use of architecturally col-ored shotcrete to enhance the environment around a project that required slope stabilization. The laboratory design study matched color samples frorrr the natural rock slope SO that the resulting product blends with the landscape. Colored shotcrete has caused construction costs to increase but it 111 may be worth the added expense if the project can be saved field locations where colored shotcrete was used from an environmental controversy. Identified are two to visit to a field application may be needed to sell the concept of colored shotcrete.
