Abstract:
This article identifies several inaccuracies in the AASHTO T 260-94 document "Sampling and Testing for Total Chloride Ion in Concrete and Concrete Raw Materials." These inaccuracies specifically relate to Procedure C — Total Ion Using Specific Ion Probe: Field Test Method — and vary in nature; some of them are minor typographical errors, while others are significant and technical in nature. The objective of this article is to alert the users of this standard test method that if the AASHTO T 260-94 document is used as it is, it will lead to seriously inaccurate estimations of chloride ions in concrete. Recommendations are made regarding the various inaccuracies.
