Abstract:
This presentation reports on the performance of superhydrophobic, ice-phobic, and photocatalytic coatings for concrete. The research results demonstrate that the developed coatings hinder water transport through treated surfaces, display a reduced tendency for ice accretion as the crystallization process is intended to be disrupted by the barriers of engineered 3D surface patterns, resolve the problems related to corrosion of reinforcement and loss of structural integrity when exposed to aggressive environmental conditions, and due to photocatalytic properties, alleviate the air and water quality issues common in heavily polluted urban zones.
