Abstract:
The use of a multi-technology approach for bridge deck inspection is well utilized for multiple state departments of transportation and state highway agencies. Combining highway speed methods including air-coupled ground penetrating radar (GPR), infrared thermography (IR), and high-resolution imaging (HRI) with mobile inspection techniques such as deck acoustic response (SounDAR) allows for a geospatial and visual mapping of bridge decks that overlays quantitative nondestructive evaluation (NDE) data on high resolution images. The approach provides bridge owners with multiple fused data sets that can be used to identify quantities for repair in the short term as well as data that can be used for life cycle maintenance planning. This presentation will identify the technologies used, case studies, and results provided to stakeholders such that data driven decisions can be make for the long-term preservation of their assets.
