Abstract:
After a structure has suffered losses totaling the cost of the structure, federal flood insurance offers funding for mitigation procedures. The most common mitigation procedure to protect against flood damage is elevation; raising the structure so the flood waters flow under it. Residential structures built atop a slab on grade can be elevated either by slab separation or by slab elevation. Slab elevation involves taking the slab on grade out of the ground, raising it up to a designated height, and supporting it at discrete points while constructing a new foundation under the slab. This presentation will examine the constructability aspects of slab elevation.
