Abstract:
The primary impediment to the use of FRP’s at the highest levels of efficacy to strengthen reinforced concrete (RC) members is the occurrence of premature debonding. Anchorage of externally bonded FRP materials is one means by which higher FRP strain levels may be achieved prior to debonding. This paper will systematically categorise the available data on FRP anchorage systems for flexure culminating in an up-to-date database summarising the important parameters used in each study. In order to comparatively assess each anchorage, the concrete strength (f’c), fibre modulus (Ef), number of plies (n) and fibre thickness (tf), were used to standardise the strain data from experimental results collected from a number of researchers. An anchorage effectiveness factor has been defined on the basis of the maximum strain reached in the FRP plate prior to failure derived from the experiments and the effective FRP strain to resist intermediate crack debonding.
