Abstract:
The synthesis and performance of slump retention type polycarboxylate superplasticizer using different functional monomers are shown. These polycarboxylate superplasticizers are synthesized using methyl acrylate, hydroxyethyl acrylate, hydroxypropyl acrylate respectively. The best molar proportion of different monomers for synthesis is tested. Properties of these polycarboxylate superplasticizers are compared according to the fluidity of cement paste and their slump retention of concrete. The compositions of these polycarboxylate superplasticizers are described by IR and GPC. From these comparisons, polycarboxylate superplasticizers using hydroxypropyl acrylate have the best properties. Relatively better reaction conditions are determined as: 45°C (113°F) as reaction temperature, 3 hours as dropping time and 1% H2O2/0.15% ascorbic acid as initiator, 0.35% TGA as chain transfer agent. According to the results, polycarboxylate superplasticizers with higher slump retention capacity would be able to produce.
