Abstract:
In this paper, an expression for slenderness lower bound in RC non sway slender columns with rectangular cross-section, in order to know when the second order effects may be neglected. This expression is valid for normal strength concrete and high strength concrete, for instantaneous and sustained loading and for uniaxial and biaxial bending. Using a criterion based on the relative loss of resistance capacity of the columns in relation to that of its cross-section of 10% in terms of bending moment and using a numerical model as a reference, the different parameters influencing on the slenderness lower bound have been analyzed. The factors have been included in the proposed expression. Finally, the proposed expression has been compared with the results obtained from numerical models and the Eurocode-2 (2003).
