Abstract:
It can be demonstrated that the mechanism of resistance regarding shear under flexure and axial tensile loads is very complex because of the great number of factors involved in the evaluation of this resistance. Within the framework of a more extensive investigation, an evaluation of the equations of the Spanish and American codes has been made in light of existing tests with reinforced concrete beams without transverse reinforcement on shear failure under axial tensile loads and the validity of the Modified Compression Field Theory has been checked. Even though the validity of these simple verification models can be gathered from results of the analysis, conclusions about the convenience of modifying the current formulations to improve the coherence and the adjustments between theory and investigation has been established.
