Abstract:
One of the crucial factors in the methodology of roller compacted concrete for dam construction is the correct treatment of the joints between the layers. This paper presents and proposes a laboratory study of the junction capacity of horizontal joints in connection with the different parameters that affect their behaviour. The junction capacity is evaluated as a function of the tensile strength of the surfaces between the layers. After a revision of the usual methods used to determine this parameter, the necesity was observed, given the peculiarities of the concretes analysed of deveolping a new system that would obtain the direct tensile strength of the fabricated cores. This work presents the characteristics of the new method developed and the evolution of the junction capacity between the layers of concrete and the different treatments for up to two years.
