Abstract:
One of the most significant features of the new Spanish Code on Structural Concrete (EHE), is the explicit use of the Strut and Tie Model to perform the calculations of some structural elements (e. g., short cantilever beams, foundations, etc.). In this paper we analyse the basis of this method, its historical evolution and its methodology. The analysis is carried out in a simplified way, but keeps complete scientific rigor. Likewise, we also study the ten "primary" structural discontinuity regions, which are used as the basic templates to easily solve any discontinuity region of a structural element.
