Abstract:
This article presents basic properties and durability aspects of concrete incorporating calcium carbonate (CaCO3) powder having average diameter of 2 and 13 micron. The replacement percentages were varied from 5-20% by weight of binder content. The tested basic properties were normal consistency, setting time, slump, compressive strength and strength development. Durability tests consisted of sulfate resistance, carbonation, autogenous and drying shrinkage. It was found that a partial replacement of cement with an optimum content of calcium carbonate not only improved mechanical properties of concrete but also made concrete more durable.
