Abstract:
Structural engineering education must evolve rapidly to prepare the next generation of practitioners to deal adequately with the changes overtaking the profession. The history of the development of undergraduate engineering education is charted. In reaction to the changing nature of professional practice, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology has issued new criteria (ABET 2000) for engineering programs. A proposed curriculum for the Illinois Institute of Technology is discussed.
