Abstract: Although the concept of pneumatically applying gunite to a construction face has been in existence since the turn of the century, the use of shotcrete in tunneling has only become one of significance in the last 10 to 15 years. Most of the developments to date have been in Europe, but now the method has started receiving considerable attention in the United States. It has expected that the next major advances will probably be made in this country.
