Abstract:
This paper compares the provisions of the American Concrete Institute "Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete" (ACI 318-71) and the Comite Europeen du Benton (hereinafter referred to as ACI and CEB respectively) as they relate to design requirements for shear in slabs. The comparisions are based on the material presented by Corely (1) and Nielsen (2). Basically, the same research has been used by both code writing bodies in formulating their provisions. Therefore, differences in the comparison are the result of interpretation of the research and/or philosophy on resistance and load factors.
