Abstract:
This paper reviews the lateral deformation capacity of reinforced concrete and post-tensioned slab-column (SC) connections and the corresponding ACI 369.1-17 and ASCE 41-17 modeling parameters for nonlinear analysis. An updated database of experiments for interior SC connection tests without shear reinforcement under combined gravity and lateral load effects has been documented. Proposed drift-based nonlinear modeling parameters are derived considering a detailed review of the backbone response of each individual SC connection specimen. Expressions for limiting drift ratios as a function of the gravity shear ratio are developed to describe the backbone response for nonlinear analysis, along with the limiting drifts for performance-based seismic evaluation. The recommended drift-based nonlinear modeling parameters and acceptance criteria are compared with the current provisions in ASCE 41-17.
