Abstract:
The Punchbowl Mosque, Sydney, Australia, is a “brutalist” structure with a simplicity of exterior architecture that belies its inspirational interior. The sculptural ceiling of the prayer space features 102 muqarnas spread across two faces of the ceiling like a honeycomb. The combination of formed concrete with wood and stone detailing creates a space that is arresting in its delicate restraint.
