Abstract:
Modern bridge design calls for 100+ years of service life for large bridges. Achieving long service lives for bridges exposed to aggressive environments is not an easy task and requires special efforts from all parties involved in design, construction, inspection, and maintenance. The article reviews critical aspects in every step of project development and highlights the actions to be taken to achieve a bridge structure durable against chloride-induced steel corrosion.
