Title: Monitoring Temperatures in Concrete Construction Using IR Thermometers
Author(s): Luke M. Snell
Publication: Concrete International
Appears on pages(s): 59-63
Keywords: infrared, emissivity, accuracy, surface
Abstract:Handheld infrared (IR) thermometers have been found to work well in the relatively narrow temperature range commonly seen in concrete construction: 0 to 120°F (-20 to -45°C). Although IR thermometers are not sufficiently accurate for some quality assurance tests, they do make it possible to estimate concrete temperatures and evaluate casting surface temperatures without interfering with the concrete placements. The article provides user guidance and lists possible applications for IR thermometers in concrete construction.
