Abstract:
This paper compares the flexural performance of two one-third-scale models of a two-way unbonded post-tensioned flat plate. One of the slabs had a conventional uniform-banded tendon arrangement and the other had a banded-banded tendon arrangement. The models had three bays in each direction and each bay was 10 x 10 ft (3 x 3 m). The specimens were tested using a whiffle tree system to approximate a uniformly distributed load, and were loaded to service and factored load multiple times, then loaded to failure. The performance of the banded-banded specimen was very similar to the uniform-banded specimen at service and factored load. The failure loads for the banded-banded and uniform-banded specimens were 310 and 321 lb/ft2 (14,840 and 15,380 N/m2) of total load, respectively—considerably higher than the design factored load of 197 lb/ft2 (9430 N/m2).
