Abstract:
The newly completed Glassell School of Art in Houston, TX, is shaped like an L, with the two legs joined by a stepped-concrete, skylit atrium. The building features a walkable, inclined roof with a public garden and an event space with views of the city and the other structures in the Museum District. With its concrete panels alternating with vast sheets of glazing, the school looks like a lantern set aglow at night. This article discusses key steps taken to ensure the structural safety and aesthetic integrity of the panels and the building.
